Nov 1989 – CurrentStarted, organized and currently operate a landscape design, build and maintain company which services a territory from West Hills and Malibu to Santa Clarita and north to Goleta.
- Manage and employ near 50 full time employees varying seasonally.
- Schedule and meet with new customers and listen to their needs while I guide them with questions and sharing knowledge in order to comprehend information leading to a design and budget that will meet their needs.
- Research products, keep up on current prices, and search for solutions and ideas that can help deliver the best design, plan and strategy for each customer.
- Review blueprints as needed and breakdown, total and identify each component for accurate pricing and time needed to complete each task.
- Obtain permits, schedule and meet with Deputy, soils, and municipal inspectors as needed and Engineers, fabricators and other trades to complete a project.
- Continue to stay current on new codes, legislation, and ordinances for each of over 30 municipalities in which we work as well as personnel changes, new processes and interpretations, formal and informal guidelines and regulations.

1996 – 2019Owned and operated a European home and garden retail store and a nursery. Responsible for purchases, marketing, staffing and running the operations.

1991 – 1994Marketed technology solutions that met the educational needs in the classroom for numerous School Districts across Southern California.
Unisys Corporation
1985 -1991Scheduled appointments and developed relationships with key personnel in numerous government agencies to learn their needs, challenges, and budget with the intent to secure their approval for a procurement of a new computing solution that can improve their area of service and improve efficiency.
Procter and Gamble
1982 – 1985Worked as a Chemical Engineer to improve product quality and cost benefit for Bounty Paper Towel and Charmin Tissue production lines.
- Chosen to be a part of the start up team for a new feminine hygiene product called Always Feminine Napkins.
- Helped to develop Standard Operating Procedures, Quality control tests and improve fluid flows and surfactant needs while improving the speed of new production lines.
- Managed several production teams, first in Oxnard, then in Greenville NC.
Doug Halter Landscaping
1972 – 1982Found customers for regular maintenance servicing and ultimately led to many landscape design installations that allowed me to fund my college housing, food and tuition. I applied plant knowledge since I learned as a child working with my grandfather on his orchard and in the Redwood forest with our shared garden activities.
